Update on Those Two Gnarly Dudes Spotted In Amman, Jordan

We have some updated information on the two gnarly dudes we saw who had resurfaced in the Old Country last week. Both had been featured in separate posts on Joplin Confidential earlier in March.

Harvey and Chris in Jordan

You’ll notice the place where Ozark Christian College’s Harvey Bacus and Chris DeWelt were photographed looks very old-world like. That’s because it is.

Harvey tells us that in the Old Testament times the place was known as Rabbah of the Ammonites. That’s going back a ways. In the first century, the Romans renamed the place Philadelphia, and today the city is known as Amman, Jordan. The photograph of Harvey and Chris was taken by another gnarly dude, Wade Landers.

Here’s the cool part. He reports that they were at the original site of Rabbah, which is called “The Citadel” in English and “The Castle” in Arabic. This is the very location where King David sent Uriah the Hittite to be conveniently killed in battle (arranged by his enforcer, Joab) after David had committed adultery with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba.

One more item. You’ll recall we mentioned the mighty eraser wielded with Davidic like accuracy by Professor Bacus. On the Facebook page “You Know You Went To Ozark Christian College If” OCC alumni Peter Banning posted this admission:

“I was hit by Uncle Harvey’s eraser more than once . . .having my briefcase open on the desk never fooled him!”

It is an awesome thing to be a part of the OCC family. As former President Ken Idleman often said, the sun never sets on the OCC family.
